The role
The role will provide subject matter expertise on how Sedex tools and services, with a strong focus on SMETA, help customers to meet global human rights and environmental due diligence processes. The role will actively support customer facing and new business teams as well as lead on customer engagement where product and sustainability expertise is required – from establishing new due diligence programmes to advising on how our products support customers to understand and address challenging environmental and human rights risks.
The role will also work with internal teams, customers and prospects and use their HREDD and customer knowledge to lead and manage projects to evolve existing products and develop new ones in response to customer and due diligence requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide customers, prospects and internal teams with expert support on how Sedex products can be used within corporate environmental and human rights due diligence programmes.
- Act as the key touchpoint for customers, prospects and internal teams for queries on product methodology, in particular SMETA, and how best to use Sedex products and services within corporate HREDD programmes.
- Provide training on HREDD requirements and Sedex tools (risk assessment, the SAQs and SMETA) to customers and internal teams.
- Understand current and emerging ESG legislation, with particularly strong expertise on the EMEA regulatory landscape and how this impacts customers and Sedex to ensure that Sedex products are fit for now and future requirements.
- Provide practical recommendations on evolving Sedex products to best serve customers to meet regulatory requirements
- Working with the product teams, own methodology development and maintenance of new and existing products – providing leadership and expertise from initial concept to methodology development to customer roll out and ongoing updates.
- Content development to support the methodology, including supporting documents and overseeing training.
- Lead on the critical and ongoing engagement with EMEA members and key stakeholders to ensure that adoption of Sedex products continues, grows and delivers to stakeholder needs.
- Work in collaboration with the internal stakeholder teams – including Product, Audit Quality, Training and Global customer teams to deliver the most effective tools.
- Use data to measure the effectiveness of Sedex products against business KPIs and explore areas where Sedex tools can be strengthened further.
- Play a leading role in Sedex research that is wide ranging and forward looking to contribute to the strategic direction of SMETA or other products, identifying opportunities for innovation in products - research industry best practice and apply insight and trends to feed into product creation.
- Represent Sedex in external meetings and events, helping to build Sedex reputation and showcasing Sedex as a leading company within the ESG space. Advocate for Sedex products, particularly SMETA, to customers and prospects.
- Problem solve long-term sustainability challenges for customers and Sedex.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- A genuine passion for sustainability and ESG.
- 10+ years working in sustainability and supply chains.
- Extensive knowledge of supply chain sustainability, HREDD, audit methodologies, procurement, assessment tools and global macro trends within ESG, and applying this within a business context.
- Experience of managing audit, social compliance and HREDD programmes including strong experience of SMETA and other social audit methodologies.
- Designing and delivering training.
- Advising senior stakeholders and representing a business externally.
- Developing and implementing business strategy with proven results delivering change and meeting KPIs in line with business goals.
- Demonstrated innovative thinking that has led to new outcomes.
- Extensive network and experience within the ESG space and working across cultures collaboratively.
- Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.
- Experience of representing companies at events / webinars or other public forums.
Desirable
- Experience of translating HREDD principles into tools and services to understand and/or improve HREDD performance.
- Experience managing multistakeholder groups.
- Experience developing tools for use by multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with sales and upselling to customers and prospects.
Skills
- Strong understanding of corporate HREDD programmes and the principles they are based on (UNGPs, OECD guidelines, ILO conventions etc).
- Knowledge of audit requirements of local legislation, standards and international best practice.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt within a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong research, data analysis and critical thinking capabilities.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to translate challenging concepts and requirements to multiple stakeholders.
- Customer and market facing expertise (solving short- and long-term customer problems and leading stakeholder engagement etc).
- An open and participative style with leadership and influencing skills.
- Ability to work within a small, global team, working well cross-departmentally and within a multicultural business.
- Self-motivated and proactive working style able to deliver effectively independently and within a team Fluent in English as well as French and / or Spanish.
